Warrior Training & Healing
Survival Arts Academy is based on the pedagogy and praxis of revolutionary matriarchy, warrior wisdom, protecting womxn, children, queer / trans people of color and protecting sacred knowledge. As an exchange for partial payment to attend our retreat, we offer a scholarship / work-trade study program for our community artists, writers, and organizers/cultural workers to support travel to the Philippines. The maximum allotted scholarship we can currently offer is $200. We accept donations from anyone that wants to support your travel, training and healing work, so we encourage you to please reach out to your networks and communities to help support you in doing this work.

Artists:
Produce 3-5 original pieces of artwork (visual, musical, graphic, video, performance) honoring the following themes: protect the family, protect the children, revolutionary matriarchy, indigenous womxn warriors, warrior mamas, Mother Earth, protecting our elders, Stay Ready so you never have to get ready, or any of the topics listed below. Digital art must demonstrate originality and creative innovation. For this opportunity, apps like Canva or AI-generated images will not be accepted as original art.
Writers:
Produce 3-5 original articles on Survival Arts Academy pedagogy and praxis. Articles must be typed (approx. 1,500-3,500 words) on any of the following subjects:
The importance of teaching womxn, gender expansive people and BIPOC how to protect against violence
The importance of creating spaces of safety and training for womxn, queer/trans, gender expansive BIPOC
The importance of teaching children consent at a young age
How to support survivors of violence and abuse
How Filipino Martial Arts has become dominated by white supremacy and patriarchal violence and how to combat this situation
The importance of reclaiming Kali / Filipino Martial Arts for Filipinos and people of color from white male supremacy and oppression, colonization and exploitation
Stories of resistance, survival, and revolution against imperialism, colonization, and subjugation.
Organizers / Cultural Workers:
Organize or book a paid educational, cultural event, or training for BIPOC in June-September 2023 for Survival Arts to facilitate a workshop, talk or demonstration at a community space, health center, school or university. The purpose of this work is to educate and liberate, as we provide our pedagogy and praxis for the uplifting of our communities with those that align with our values, and not for the purpose of exploitation of the arts and our sacred knowledge.
