Survival Arts Film: The Retreat

Survival Arts: The Retreat ᜃᜎᜒ
A documentary film sharing our first Philippines Retreat in 2020 bringing students from the diaspora back home to the motherland.

This film gives an introduction to our founder's story of establishing the first ever all women of color and gender-expansive Kali training group in the world, creating a movement for many others to follow. From the Bronx to the Philippines, Siargao to Bacolod, we travel the islands to connect to our ancestral roots, our Filipino fighting arts, and most importantly, to our truest selves.

The screening aims to highlight the martial arts' cultural significance while also promoting women’s empowerment through the transformative power of self-defense. Following the screening, an engaging talkback session will be held with speaker Jamie Yancovitz. She will discuss how Kali serves as a powerful tool for female empowerment, fostering confidence and strength.

The event will conclude with a demonstration featuring members of Survival Arts Academy’s Bacolod community, where the participants will see the importance of learning self-defense skills and hear from local students.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to be inspired, to learn and to connect.

ᜐᜎᜋ salamat / thank you to everyone who poured energy into making this happen, just days before the pandemic changed the world.
